First off, Google (company) has been very secretive about when and what Google Home (w/ Google Assistant inside) will be, so this is all speculation:

The ‘facts’ are:

  1. Google is spending time and money to build a competitor to the Echo.
  2. This device with Google Assistant inside will be available sometime in 2016.

The promo video Google put out does not feature ‘3rd party skills,’ you are always interacting with Google, not getting passed off to Uber or Domino’s or Spotify, etc.

That said, Google is known for believing in robust, open ecosystems (i.e. Android) so keeping a walled garden is counter to their culture and prior strategy.

So, we’ll find out!
